Anamcara Irish Terriers are dedicated to preserving and improving the health, temperament and beauty of the Irish Terrier, consistent with the Irish Terrier Breed Standard.  The owners, Ron and Janice, are both members of and officers of many dog clubs and have a true love for Irish Terriers.

We breed, show and own high quality Irish Terriers that have enjoyed great success in the show ring. We are designated as AKC Breeders of Merit. Our Grand Champion CH Anamcara Margaret O’Hooligan (Maggie) recently had a mid-December litter of five puppies – four males and one female – and we are proud grandparents again.

“Once you get to know an Irish Terrier well enough to get acquainted with his personality, to recognize the depth of his love, to behold the proud almost swaggering carriage, his catlike grace of movement, blinding speed and coordination of muscle, and his magnificent courage and heart, and to see his unnerving intelligence displayed again and again, you will be convinced that the Irish Terrier is one of the most magnificent of God’s creations in the dog family.”

ORIGIN OF THE WORD “ANAMCARA”

“Anamcara” refers to the Celtic spiritual belief of souls connecting and bonding. In Celtic Spiritual tradition, it is believed that the soul radiates all about the physical body, what some refer to as an aura. When you connect with another person and become completely open and trusting with that individual, your two souls begin to flow together. Should such a deep bond be formed, it is said    that you have found your “Anamcara.”

Literally, Anamcara means “Soul Friend” (“Anam” meaning “Soul” and “Cara” meaning “Friend”). Janice and Ron believe that all of our Irish Terriers are truly our “Soul Friends.”
